SPIRITS CUP - Regardless of who wins, everyone ends up drunk! And I probably end up sick.
Mexico's Casa Noble Blanco Tequila VS. South Africa's Pinotage
Started the match off by pairing the Casa Noble blanco tequila with a fair trade Ethiopian coffee, a must this early in the morning. This Tequila is as cool as Mexico's jerseys. The Mexican dark blue jerseys must be for the Blue Agave used in this fine spirit. (I don't care if the jerseys are actually black.)
Many ESPNspirits analysts predicted that the Pinotage would upset the mighty Tequila. But there will be no mystery off-sides granted in this spirits competition. Pinotage will have to find a way to keep the ball out of the net.
Nederburg Pinotage, a red wine from South Africa is a cross between Pino Noir and Hermitage. This wine is smooth, crisp and much like South Africa's offense - light. This wine is also flavorful with a sharp Tshabalala finish. Too bad the rest of the South African club could not finish as well.
The outcome: There will be no draw in the Spirits Cup today. Pinotage couldn't settle in during this early morning match. Tequila had an unlikely assist by an African rival of its opponent - Ethiopia. The coffe/tequila combination was killer, but the game winner came when Zamundinho brought out the lunch: burritos. Pinotage didn't stand a chance. Casa Noble was a perfect complement to lunch and put the cork back in the Pinotage.
During the post game celebration a Negra Modelo stormed the field. Upset that they didn't make the Mexican Spirits Cup squad, I was lucky that only one of these dark beers made it out of the fridge or things could have been ugly.
FINAL: Casa Noble Blanco Tequila 2 - Pinotage 1
